The U.S. War Department, former the Department of Defense, today launched GenAI.mil, a secure generative AI platform now accessible on all Pentagon desktops. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth emailed staff urging universal adoption, calling the tool a “giant step toward mass AI adoption.”
The system currently offers Gemini for Government, a Google AI model cleared for controlled unclassified information, with more U.S.-made frontier models coming soon. Officials say the tool will help personnel draft documents, analyze data, process satellite imagery and audit code.
The top of the page will show a green banner to remind users what data can or can’t be uploaded.
“This tool marks the beginning of a new era, where every member of our workforce can be more efficient and impactful,” Hegseth said in a blog post.
