In a major change, Slack said its AI assistant is getting new capabilities including the ability to work across different apps in a bid to become a universal enterprise AI agent.
Slackbot can follow users across their desktop, understand what they are working on and act within other applications. It can access tools through its MCP client, including Salesforce, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Workday, ServiceNow and Notion, according to the company.
Slack, which is owned by Salesforce, frames the changes as a way to bring scattered AI tools into one place. “Most of your AI capability is invisible to most of your people,” the company said. “Slackbot is the single interface to all of it.”
The direction is straightforward: Instead of switching between apps, users stay in Slack while an AI agent moves across systems to get work done.
New capabilities include the following:
- Routes tasks across apps, agents and enterprise systems
- Works outside Slack, following users across their desktop
- Executes repeatable workflows through reusable “AI skills”
- Captures meetings, summarizes decisions and logs follow-ups
- Updates CRM records and triggers workflows via conversation
- Acts as a hub for other AI agents and integrations
- Learns user preferences and improves over time
- Supports voice input, research and shared prompts
The new features are rolling out to paid plans now, with broader access expected in April.
