Amazon Debuts Its First Conversational Warehouse Robot

Amazon is bringing generative AI into its warehouses through a new version of its Proteus mobile robot that can respond to conversational instructions from workers.

The company unveiled the technology as part of a €10 billion ($11.6 billion) investment in its European logistics network. Rather than requiring employees to interact through specialized software, the robots can understand natural-language requests via text prompts, allowing workers to communicate with machines more intuitively.

“An employee tells it what needs to be done, and the robot figures out the priority, the route, and the timing,” Amazon said in a blog post.

The new Proteus can perform physically demanding tasks, such as moving heavy carts and traveling long distances. Deployment in Europe is set for the first half of 2027.

Amazon said the technology is designed to improve productivity and safety while helping employees work alongside autonomous systems. The announcement reflects a broader trend in enterprise AI as organizations move beyond chatbots and copilots toward physical AI systems capable of operating in real-world environments.

The development could offer a glimpse into the future of warehouse operations, where workers increasingly coordinate with fleets of AI-powered robots using voice and conversational interfaces. For enterprises, the technology highlights how generative AI is beginning to transform operational workflows beyond traditional office applications.
