AI Actress Tilly Norwood to Star in Feature Film

AI-generated actress Tilly Norwood is set to make her feature film debut in “Misaligned,” a comedy-drama that marks the first full-length production from U.K.-based AI studio Particle6 and the latest test of how audiences will respond to synthetic performers on the big screen.

The film follows Tilly, an AI being living in a surreal digital world known as the “Tillyverse,” as she develops human-like desires after encountering a rogue AI from the dark web, according to Variety.

Particle6 founder Eline van der Velden said the story explores identity, performance and humanity’s fears about artificial intelligence while blending AI tools with traditional filmmaking. The studio said directors, writers and editors worked alongside AI specialists to produce the film.

Tilly first appeared in 2025 as what Particle6 described as a fully AI-generated actress designed to perform across films, television and advertising.

Her debut sparked immediate backlash from Hollywood. The union SAG-AFTRA argued that Tilly was trained on the work of professional performers without their permission or compensation and warned producers against using synthetic performers without complying with union contracts.

The debate has become a flashpoint in the broader conversation over generative AI’s role in creative industries. Supporters argue AI can reduce production costs and expand creative possibilities, while critics contend it risks displacing human performers and eroding protections for creative labor.
