Ex-Apple Executives’ Startup Aims to Give Robots a ‘Visual Brain’

Lyte, a robotics startup founded by former Apple executives, has raised about $107 million to date to develop technology that helps robots see more clearly and operate more safely, according to Bloomberg News.

The Mountain View, Calif.-based company was founded by Alexander Shpunt, Arman Hajati and Yuval Gerson, who helped build the depth-sensing technology behind Apple’s Face ID. Shpunt previously co-founded PrimeSense, whose technology powered Microsoft Kinect and later became the foundation of Apple’s facial recognition system after a 2013 acquisition.

Lyte’s flagship product, LyteVision, combines cameras, inertial motion sensing and 4D sensing – which measures distance and velocity – into a single, integrated platform that delivers actionable spatial and visual data. The company is also developing custom silicon, optics and software to simplify sensor integration, a major bottleneck in robotics.

Backed by investors including Fidelity, Atreides and Avigdor Willenz, Lyte aims to serve as the “visual brain” for robots across industrial, mobility and humanoid applications.
