Google Unveils ‘Personal Intelligence’ that Connects User Data

Google has launched a feature that lets users personalize its Gemini AI assistant by connecting data from Google apps such as Gmail, Photos, YouTube and Search.

Rolling out in beta in the U.S. to eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, Personal Intelligence is designed to make Gemini more proactive and context-aware while keeping user control and privacy central.

When enabled, users choose which apps to connect and can turn the feature off. Gemini can then reason across emails, photos, text and video to retrieve specific details and deliver tailored recommendations, such as pulling information from a photo or email to answer a real-time question or planning trips based on past activity.

“For AI to be truly useful, it needs to understand you,” wrote Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, on X. “Gemini can now securely reason across your own data to answer questions that generic models simply can’t – like suggesting plans based on travel dates in Gmail or your hobbies found in Photos.”

Google said the system does not train directly on personal inboxes or photo libraries and includes safeguards for sensitive data. Users can review sources, correct assumptions and provide feedback as the beta expands to more users and regions.
