IBM Redesigns Entry-level Positions, to Triple Hiring

IBM said it plans to triple entry-level hiring in the U.S. in 2026, even as artificial intelligence reshapes demand for early-career roles, according to Bloomberg News.

The company declined to provide specific numbers but said the expansion will be “across the board.” “And yes, it’s for all these jobs that we’re being told AI can do,” said Nickle LaMoreaux, IBM’s chief human resources officer, speaking at Charter’s ‘Leading With AI Summit’ in New York.

LaMoreaux said IBM redesigned entry-level roles after determining that “AI can do most” of the tasks associated with jobs from two to three years ago. Junior software developers now spend less time on routine coding and more time working with customers, while HR staff focus on correcting chatbot output and advising managers.

The move comes amid concerns that AI could eliminate many entry-level office jobs. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned that half of such roles may disappear by 2030. But IBM argued that cutting early-career hiring risks future middle management shortages.
