Meta Acquires General-Purpose AI Agent Startup Manus

Meta said it has acquired Manus, a Singapore-based developer of general-purpose AI agents, as part of its expanding push into artificial intelligence.

Manus has built an autonomous agent capable of executing complex tasks such as market research, coding and data analysis. The company launched its first general AI agent earlier this year and said it has already processed more than 147 trillion tokens and supported over 80 million virtual computers. Manus claims annualized average revenue above $100 million within eight months of launch.

Meta said Manus will continue operating its subscription service without disruption while its technology is integrated into Meta’s consumer and enterprise products, including Meta AI. Employees from Manus will join Meta’s AI teams.

The Wall Street Journal reported the deal exceeded $2 billion, citing people familiar with the matter. Meta said it will wind down Manus’ remaining operations in China, with no continuing Chinese ownership interests after the transaction.

The acquisition follows Meta’s recent investments in Scale AI and other AI-focused start-ups, underscoring its strategy of acquiring talent and advanced automation tools.
