OpenAI’s GPT-6 Lets ChatGPT Build Interactive Interfaces on the Fly

OpenAI is turning ChatGPT into something closer to a software interface generator with the release of GPT-6, introducing a feature called Intelligent UI that can build interactive tools, diagrams and other visual experiences directly inside a conversation.

The capability, announced Oct. 7, marks a shift from the familiar chatbot format of paragraphs and lists. Instead of merely explaining how to calculate retirement savings or compare options, ChatGPT can produce an interactive calculator or a side-by-side comparison that users can manipulate without leaving the conversation.

OpenAI said Intelligent UI allows GPT-6 to choose among text, graphics, tappable buttons, forms and charts depending on the question. Users can ask for an explanation of a bicycle’s components and explore an interactive diagram, or request a bill splitter and adjust the inputs directly.

The company framed Intelligent UI as an early step toward interfaces created around individual needs rather than static software designs. Its announcement said, “Instead of people adapting to software, software will adapt to people.”

The feature relies on a library of native, streamable interface components and a compiler that processes layouts as GPT-6 generates them. That lets elements appear progressively rather than requiring the system to finish an entire answer before displaying it.

OpenAI said it trained the model to make decisions about presentation, including when interactivity adds value and when a conventional text response is sufficient. The company acknowledged that its design judgment and the range of interfaces it can create still need improvement.

The larger ambition is to make software less dependent on fixed menus and predefined workflows. Rather than opening a separate application for every calculation, comparison or lesson, a user could describe a task and receive an interface assembled for that moment.

For enterprises, that approach suggests potential changes to how employees access information and complete routine tasks. An AI assistant could present an interactive view of a business problem instead of requiring users to navigate multiple screens. Those possibilities remain prospective, however: OpenAI’s announcement describes a ChatGPT feature, not a wholesale replacement for enterprise software.

GPT-6 with Intelligent UI began rolling out Oct. 7 to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, with Free and Go access following Oct. 8. Enterprise availability depends on administrators’ settings. OpenAI said the update applies to ChatGPT’s Chat experience, not the models powering Work or Codex.
