US Tech Force Program to Hire 1,000 ‘Elite’ AI Engineers

A White House-backed initiative called Tech Force is hiring around 1,000 software engineers to modernize the technology used by government.

According to its website, the two-year program accepts candidates regardless of whether or not they have college degrees or experience. But they should have robust technical skills as an “elite” engineer. The pay range is expected to be $150,000 to $200,000 a year for the two-year program.

Fields they are hiring for include artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, or technical project management. The positions are mainly based in Washington, D.C. Remote work options may be available depending on the agency.

Projects include AI implementation, application development, data modernization and digital service delivery across federal agencies. Engineers hired will be placed in agencies that include the Departments of War, Treasury, State, Labor, Commerce, Energy, Health and Human Services, Interior, Housing and Urban Development, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs, as well as the Small Business Administration, IRS, Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services, OPM, GSA and others.

Tech Force is partnering with several tech companies, which will provide resources, training and other help. They can also nominate employees to join Tech Force. These partners include AWS, Dell, Google, IBM, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia,, OpenAI, xAI and others.

After the Tech Force program ends, employees can find other jobs, apply to stay with the federal government or seek other opportunities.
