Yann LeCun Unveils New Startup, Hires CEO

Yann LeCun, a Turing award winner and former chief AI scientist at Meta, has unveiled the name of his new startup: Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI) Labs.

LeCun, who serves as AMI’s executive chairman, also hired Alex LeBrun to be the CEO, according to a LinkedIn post. LeBrun will step down as the CEO of Nabla – a company that provides AI-powered note-taking, documentation and dictation to clinicians – but will stay on as chairman and chief AI scientist.

AMI Labs will focus on developing ‘world models’ that LeCun believes are superior to language models underpinning the likes of ChatGPT. Language models suffer from hallucinations, non-deterministic reasoning and limitations when it comes to handling multimodal data such as text, video and audio.

This makes autonomous decision-making “challenging,” according to Nabla’s press release. In contrast, world models represent how the world works by encoding causality, dynamics and constraints. For example, it figures out what will happen if it pushes an object.

Nabla struck an agreement with AMI to get early access to its next-generation world models, aiming to be the first company to bring “FDA-certifiable agentic AI systems” to health care.

LeBrun said in a LinkedIn post that Nabla’s annualized run rate has tripled in 2025.
